So of course, the question then is…what the heck is a Gaidelis or a Vytautas?

As per the translation available on this Wikipedia page in Lithuanian, the term Gaidelis refers to a “boulder amidst the riverbed of the Neris River, located in Užusalii borough of Jonava district, adjacent to the village of Krėslyņi.” Legend has it that this rock, which translates to “rooster” in Lithuanian, has mystical associations. The translation reads, “Passengers passing by late in the evening claimed to hear hammering noises, saw figures sitting on the stone, or felt compelled to light up a pipe upon being called by their actual names. Sometimes, they felt drawn towards this place involuntarily and could only move ahead when the rooster crowed.”

In context of Vytautas, also known as Vytautas the Great, he was a ruler of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, the prince of Grodno (1370-1382), prince of Lutsk (1387-1389) and possibly the king of the Hussites. He is revered as a national hero in Lithuania, and the name Vytautas remains quite popular. His life spanned from 1392 to 1430.

The local folklore and culture never fail to amaze! And the prices are truly astonishing!
